Structural determinants of health are hierarchical patterns of advantage among socially constructed groups that affect health outcomes. Unlike social determinants of health, the structural determinants of health are maintained through power relations. Join us for a Milbank Quarterly webinar with Jonathan Heller of the University of Wisconsin–Madison, who published a Milbank Quarterly article on defining the structural determinants of health, and Tyson Brown of Duke University, who published on the need for data infrastructure on contextual measures of structural oppression. The webinar will include a moderated discussion with the authors and Jamila Michener of Cornell University, who has published on building power through grassroots politics to affect the structural determinants of health.
