State Senator, Florida
Senator Gayle Harrell has served 24 years in the Florida Legislature. She has served in the Florida Senate since 2018 after serving eight terms in the Florida House of Representatives from 2000-2008 and 2010-2018.
She has over 30 years of experience in healthcare. She is President, CEO of Health IT Strategies a company dedicated to assisting physicians, hospitals and labs develop strategies to expand the use of Health Information Technology and Electronic Health Records. She worked as a Healthcare Administrator, managing the Ob-Gyn. practice of Dr. James E. Harrell and was the founder of the Breast Imaging Center, a mammography center specializing in preventive care for women.
She has focused her interest and passion in the Legislature on health and human services issues serving on and chairing many health and human services policy and appropriations committees. She passed many major pieces of healthcare legislation as early as 2004 when she passed the original legislation permitting the use of E- Prescribing. She passed significant healthcare legislation including cancer research, permitting the use of tele-health and the establishment of Health Innovation Council as well as many other bills during her 24 years of service in the Florida Legislature.
