Andrea Barton Reeves, JD, serves as the Commissioner of Connecticut’s Department of Social Services. In this role, she has transformed service delivery in the 12 community centers where residents apply for benefits by streamlining services and introducing procedures that add dignity to the application process. She has also introduced two major Medicaid waiver programs: a maternity bundle focused on improving health care outcomes for poor and low-income women, and a one for formerly incarcerated adults and juveniles. Andrea has also established the state’s first Opportunity Center, where clients can receive holistic services and supports in one place. In further pursuit of her lifelong commitment to advocacy for underserved communities, Andrea is completing a Master of Arts in Religion at Yale Divinity School, where she is a Social Justice Scholar, with an academic focus on non-profit leadership excellence and poverty alleviation.
