Amanda Dumas attended Loyola University New Orleans and received a medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. During her medical training she spent a year in Zambia with the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia helping to scale-up pediatric clinical services. She then completed residency training at the Brown Pediatric Residency Program in Rhode Island, followed by a Master of Science in Clinical Research during a General Academic Pediatric Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.

She moved to New Orleans to join the faculty at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in 2013. Her clinical practice centers on the care of adolescents and parenting teens. As an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, Dr. Dumas also conducts grant-funded health disparities research and was selected to take part in the Louisiana Clinical and Translational Science Center’s Roadmap Scholars Program and is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research. She contributes to resident and medical student education and was the director of the Pediatric Residency Advocacy Rotation for 6 years.

She joined the Louisiana Department of Health in 2020 as the Associate Medical Director of the Bureau of Health Service Financing (Medicaid), where she helps to advance clinical policy goals within the agency, meets with stakeholders, and participates in maternal and child health focused interagency collaborations. She currently resides in New Orleans with her husband, who is also a pediatrician, and their sons, ages 4 and 6. They enjoy exploring the area’s unique landscape and culture, riding in Mardi Gras floats, and eating out.
