Indira Islas

Indira Islas is a former Health Graduate Fellow with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute and research assistant at the George Washington Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity, where she led a project focusing on the representation of Latinos in the health workforce. Motivated by her immigrant parents, both doctors in Mexico who were unable to practice in the United States, Indira aspires to follow in their footsteps and pursue a career in medicine.

Indira, who has a full-time role at Bristol Myers Squibb, holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Delaware State University (DSU), an education made possible through TheDream.US scholarship—a private scholarship for DACA recipients residing in locked-out states. During her time at DSU, Indira was recognized as a leader, representing DACA recipients on campus and extending her advocacy to a national level. She has master’s degree in public health from George Washington University’s Milken Institute of Public Health.
