According to new research, the nurse practitioner (NP) workforce is projected to grow nearly 11% annually from 2023 to 2030, driven largely by early-career NPs. A new Milbank Memorial Fund report, Nurse Practitioners and the Future of Primary Care Access, highlights that while this surge could help address the shortage of primary care clinicians, many NPs are choosing other specialties, and properly preparing early-career NPs for primary care remains a key challenge.
