Lead Medical Officer, Division of Medicaid Services, Wisconsin Department of Health Services
Jeff Huebner, MD, is Lead Medical Officer for the Wisconsin Medicaid program at the Department of Health Services. He believes Medicaid can help drive the transformation of our health systems from delivering not only health care, but also health and well-being at the individual, community, and societal levels. With this focus, he has led the launch of a new medically tailored meals program and the agency’s efforts to transform maternal health outcomes. He regularly partners with public health, managed care, and clinicians to improve quality and population health metrics and reduce disparities in areas such as lead screening, hypertension, and colorectal screening.
Prior to this role, Jeff served as Medical Director in UW Health’s Office of Population Health, where he worked to improve care and lower costs for its accountable care organization population. Jeff’s leadership contributed to the launch of home-based primary and hospital care, the Connect Rx program (linking community health workers with high-risk pregnancies), and other programs that support medically and socially complex populations. He trained at the Medical College of Wisconsin, completed his family medicine residency at the University of Washington, and has held several health policy and leadership advocacy roles throughout his career.
