Director of Health, Kansas City Health Department
As Director of the Kansas City Health Department, Marvia Jones, PhD, MPH, oversees the city’s efforts to improve the quality of life for its residents. Marvia has worked in community health and development, behavioral health, and violence prevention for over 14 years. She earned a MPH and PhD in Community Behavioral Psychology from the University of Kansas. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in violence prevention and policy development at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She is passionate about supporting the development of strong, healthy families and neighborhoods in Kansas City. A native of Jacksonville, Florida, she is proud to call KC, where she resides with her husband and two sons, her adopted home.
