Michelle Alletto will join the Milbank Memorial Fund as a program officer on August 1. In addition to providing support to the Fund’s Reforming States Group (RSG), Michelle will coordinate the work of the Fund’s Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) and identify and implement projects that connect state health policy leaders with evidence and experience on particular issues of population health.

Ms. Alletto comes to the Fund from Louisiana where she served as deputy secretary for the Department of Health (LDH). In that position, she provided leadership in several areas, including services for the aging and disabled, mental health and substance use disorder, and public health. Prior to that, she led the state’s family planning program and served as the deputy director for the LDH Birth Outcomes Initiative, an effort that led to impressive improvements for newborns in Louisiana.

Before moving to Louisiana, Ms. Alletto was the assistant director for public policy at the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs in Washington, DC. She earned a master’s degree in public administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University and has over a decade of experience working in public health and public management.

Ms. Alletto is familiar with several of the Fund’s programs. She began attending RSG regional meetings in 2016 and has participated in the Fund’s ELP. “We’re delighted that Michelle is joining our team,” said Fund President Chris Koller. “She has already distinguished herself as a highly capable state health care leader with a commitment to population health and public service.”

“I’m honored to join the Milbank Memorial Fund team, which lends unparalleled support to state leaders, both current and future,” said Ms. Alletto. “During my tenure as a senior health official, the Fund provided unique opportunities to meet colleagues as dedicated as I am to advancing strong health policy. As a program officer with the Fund, I look forward to working with states on the issues that interest them most and sustaining the spirit of the RSG community.”
