The Milbank Memorial Fund is a private foundation that works to improve population health and health equity.
Fatmata Williams is an immigrant from Sierra Leone, West Africa, who has lived in the United States for thirty years and has been a registered nurse for twenty-three years. She is a Supervising Registered Nurse Consultant and currently works at the Connecticut Department of Social Services Division of Health Services, Connecticut’s single state Medicaid agency. Fatmata has health policy and clinical responsibilities within the Connecticut Medicaid program and oversight of the agency’s medical administrative services organization. Fatmata also engages in cross-agency collaborations and participates in various workgroups and committees to identify gaps to improve outcomes for Connecticut Medicaid members. Fatmata is committed to improving maternal health outcomes, identifying and addressing disparities, racial inequities, and social injustice for the people she serves.
Before her current role at the Connecticut Department of Social Services, Fatmata had extensive and diverse clinical nursing experience working in operating rooms, medical-surgical, psychiatric inpatient, geriatric, home care, and hospice nursing environments.
Fatmata is currently pursuing an advanced practice nursing degree to practice at the top of her license and develop the necessary skills to effect safe and efficient health care services and delivery policies.
Fatmata serves on her town’s local television station board. She blogs for fun and loves to dance, read, and travel. Fatmata lives in Connecticut with her husband Brian and two sons, Kwame and Kisimi.
