Center for Health Care Affordability Director, Minnesota Department of Health
Alex Caldwell has served as the inaugural director of the Minnesota Department of Health’s Center for Health Care Affordability since January 2025. She leads the Center’s work to understand the drivers of health care spending, engage Minnesotans on affordability challenges, advance research priorities, and develop evidence-based policy solutions.
Before joining MDH, Alex worked at FSG, where she partnered with philanthropic, nonprofit, and corporate leaders to advance health equity through strategy and measurement. Previously, at the Colorado Health Institute, she led research and consulting teams conducting policy analyses, evaluations, and needs assessments with government and community partners. She began her career as a high school science teacher. Alex holds a BS in biology from Dickinson College and an MPH from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.
