State Epidemiologist and Assistant Commissioner, Indiana Department of Health
Eric Hawkins, MS, is the State Epidemiologist at the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH), where he provides leadership for statewide epidemiologic practice, public health surveillance, and the use of data to inform public health action. He has more than 16 years of public health experience spanning local and state government, with a background in infectious disease epidemiology, environmental health, outbreak response, and public health data.
In his current role, Eric oversees statewide infectious disease surveillance and provides strategic guidance on public health data, epidemiology and response efforts across IDOH. Over his public health career, he has held multiple leadership positions and has played key leadership roles in major public health responses. He enjoys turning data into action and is especially passionate about using data to inform decision-making and improve health outcomes across Indiana. Eric holds a Master of Science in Epidemiology and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Public Health in Epidemiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
