State Representative, Michigan
Dr. Matt Longjohn is a first-term member of the Michigan House of Representatives, where he has the honor and privilege of serving the City of Portage, and Oshtemo and Texas Townships. In Lansing, he serves on the appropriations committee, as the minority vice chair of the higher education appropriations subcommittee, and as a member of the human services appropriations subcommittee. In his first year in office he introduced legislation aimed at reducing the cost of prescription medications, increasing parents’ access to information about immunizations in schools and child care centers, ensuring breast cancer patients have insurance coverage for critical tests and treatments, increasing housing options, and addressing the epidemic of gun violence. In December 2025, Matt was nominated by the Lansing political press as “Freshman Lawmaker of the year”. Prior to his election in 2024, Matt was a nationally recognized leader in public health and health systems innovation. Throughout most of the last 25 years he has served in non-profit executive roles, leading organizations to successfully integrate community resources into equitable, effective, and sustained population health endeavors.
