Commissioner, Behavioral Health Services, Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services
Drew Adkins is the Commissioner for Behavioral Health at the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS). In this role, he serves as the state’s mental health and substance abuse authority. He began his tenure with KDADS as Assistant Commissioner of Behavioral Health in 2021.
Drew has a background in Missouri state government, working in the Missouri Department of Mental Health as the Communications Specialist for the Office of Disaster Services and serving in the Missouri Department of Economic Development. He also served several years as legislative staff in the Missouri House of Representatives, most recently working in fiscal policy for the Missouri House Budget Chairman. Drew has a Master of Business Administration, a graduate certificate in business analytics from the Bloch School at University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science from Missouri State University. Drew serves as a member of the board of directors for the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors, the National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Agency Directors, and the NRI board as part of NASMHPD. Drew has been married for four years to the love of his life, Slone, and they attend the Rock of KC church.
