Minnesota’s 585,000 unpaid family and friend caregivers play a critical role in helping older Minnesotans live well at home. The value of their support far surpasses the amount of public expenditures on long-term services and supports. As Minnesota looks forward to 2030, the year the baby boomers start turning 85, maintaining this workforce is critical to the state’s continued success in helping people live well at home. This session will provide an overview of Minnesota’s long-term services and supports system and the range of supports available to family and friends who are caregiving. Specific successes in this area will be highlighted as well as lessons learned from efforts that were not so successful.
