Manpower Issues in Saudi Health Development

Wealthy yet underdeveloped Saudi Arabia presents an important contrast to health manpower models advocated by the World Health Organization. Infectious diseases are still prevalent; the degenerative and chronic diseases of "progress" are gaining. In attempting to balance between primary care and specialized manpower, the Saudis continue to rely on expatriate physicians. But a unique pattern of self-sufficiency appears to be emerging.
